Since 2014, Doris Wohlfender-Bühler has worked as a scientific advisor at Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), where she is a member of the International Research Organisations unit. She represented Switzerland on the Administrative and Finance Committee of the European XFEL from 2017 to 2025. Since 2019, she has headed the Swiss delegations to both the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Council and the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC), and in 2025 she became Chair of the EMBL Finance Committee.

Doris is also a member of the ELIXIR Board (the decision-making body of the European infrastructure for biological information) and represents SERI in the Global Biodata Coalition. She joined the Swiss delegation to the CERN Council in 2023 and has served on the CERN Finance Committee since then. As of 2026, she is a member of the PFGB.

She earned a Master’s degree in cell biology from the University of Bern in 2006 and completed her PhD in microbiology at ETH Zurich in 2010, conducting research on the biogenesis of respiratory enzymes in Bradyrhizobium japonicum.
